Materials:
  • 2 4x8 sheets 1/2 to 3/4" finished plywood or MDO Sign Board
  • 5 8' 2x4s (treated or apply sufficient primer)
  • Decking screws
  • Latex primer
  • Latex exterior paints
  • Clear sealant

Pattern:  There are several good pattern books available from the library or use a pattern from a personal or family quilt. There are also many patterns available on the internet. A painted border helps "frame" your design.

Directions:  Prime all lumber – two coats minimum. Trace your pattern on the boards and paint the design, again using at least two coats. Blue painters tape will help keep your lines neat. Seal with at least two coats of clear, non-yellowing sealant.

Assembly:  You may wish to assemble the entire quilt square before hanging, hang it in two halves, or hang the framework and then attach the plywood. Use care when hanging!  Click here for a construction diagram.
